Are You a Nellie or a Laura?

1.You have a birthday party and your little sister asks if she can hang out with you and your friends. You:
A: Say “Of course!” Who would say no to their sister?
B: Shove her out of the way. You don’t need her stealing all of the attention. It’s your party, after all.
C: Tell her that she can play with you guys in the beginning of the party, but she has to leave you alone after that.

2.One of your best friends at school makes friends with a new girl. You:
A: Are excited. If your best friend likes the new girl, you’re sure you’ll be friends with her too!
B: Are a little bit wary. You don’t want your best friend to like anyone more than she likes you.
C: Are totally annoyed! Why would she want to play with anyone but you?

3.Your mom tells you that you have to be in charge of cleaning your room every week, or else you won’t get an allowance. You:
A: Sulk. Why do you have to do everything? Isn’t it the grown-ups’ job to clean?
B: Say “sure!” You know you need to help out around the house more anyway – it’s not fair that your parents get stuck with all the work.
C: Are a little annoyed but you understand. After all, it’s nicer to have a clean room than a messy one.

4.Your teacher catches you passing notes with your best friend during class, and tells you she’s going to call your parents to talk to them about your behavior. You:
A: Ask the teacher if you can talk to her after school, and then let her know that you’re sorry and promise you won’t do it again. Hey – you might end up passing notes again, but at least you don’t have to worry about your teacher calling home this time.
B: Glare at her and tell her you don’t care. You’ll just tell your parents it was a mistake. Your teacher’s not being very smart if she thinks your parents will believe her over you.
C: Are really worried. School’s important and you don’t want your parents to think that you don’t realize that.

5.You’re walking to school through a grassy field on a hot day. You:
A: Take off your shoes and bask in the sunshine. Isn’t walking outside and enjoying nature great?
B: Feel okay as long as you move quickly. You hate the feel of scratchy grass on your ankles.
C: Threaten to throw a temper tantrum until someone offers to drive you to school from now on. You’re going to get all dirty from the grass and who knows what kinds of bugs could be crawling up your legs!

6.Your dad’s birthday is the same day as a big birthday party that you’re invited to for one of your friends. You:
A: Are torn so you decide to spend time with your dad for part of the day and then go to the birthday party a little late.
B: Stay home. How could you go to a friend’s birthday party when it’s a special family day?
C: Make your dad a card and then give it to him when he drives you to your friend’s birthday party. After all, you see your dad everyday. And you only see your friends at school!

7.You’re about to finish your homework, and once you do, you’ll be allowed to finish your book. Then your little brother asks you for help on his homework, and you know it’ll take a long time. You:
A: Tell him to “Go away.” After all, you had to do all of your homework alone, why should he get help?
B: Gaze sadly at the book and promise to help your brother for a half hour. That still gives you plenty of reading time.
C: Smile at your brother and let him know that you’ll help him for as long as it takes.

8.You come home from a friend’s house and realize that you can’t find your new ipod. You:
A: Get really worried but bravely go tell your family you need help. It was a special gift from them and you don’t want them to think you were careless.
B: Scream for everyone in the house to help you. And if they can’t find it, no problem. You’re sure if you cry hard enough, they’ll get you a new one.
C: Scour your room and look in all the possible places. You don’t want to tell anyone you’ve lost it until you’re sure it’s gone. And in the meantime, you need time alone to start thinking of how best to convince them to get you a new one.

9.You have a spelling test tomorrow and you’ve already gone over the words three times on your own. Your mom says that she wants you to spell them for her, too. You:
A: Say “No” and stomp out of the room. Why doesn’t she believe you that you’ve studied hard enough?
B: Sigh loudly but agree to be tested by her. You know she’s only looking out for you, but you want her to know you’re a little annoyed.
C: Thank her for making sure that you’re absolutely ready for the test. After all, practice makes perfect!

10.You’re out at a restaurant with your family and your parents tell you and your sister that you can order dessert but you have to share. Your sister only likes apple pie and you only like brownies. You:
A: Start to cry, and tell them all that you can eat a whole dessert by yourself. The louder you are, the more likely they are to let you have what you want.
B: Tell your sister that you guys can share the apple pie, and maybe you can share a brownie next time? You’re sure any dessert will be good!
C: Tell your parents that you don’t want any dessert so your sister can have the apple pie. Maybe they’ll remember that you didn’t get dessert this time, so next time they’ll insist that you get a brownie.
