EVENT GUIDE FOR STORES

Dress the part!
Have your staff dress in costume, and encourage your guests to dress up as well by offering door prizes to anyone who dresses in Little House costumes. Make sure you announce that prizes will be given out when you advertise and promote your event. And, be creative when you award prizes—best bonnet, most authentic, most beautiful colors, for example—so that no one goes away without a prize.

My Little House Crafts Book includes easy-to-follow instructions for Charlotte’s Straw Hat, and many other great projects!

Listen to the sounds of Little House
Nothing sets the mood for a perfect event better than live music. Contact a local musician, and set up a performance of music inspired by the Little House books.

Traditional music from the pioneer days on the American frontier will keep your guests as happy as the sound of Pa’s fiddle kept Laura and her family!

Share the Stories
Read excerpts from the first book in each of the five Little House series with your customers. Start at the beginning with Martha, Laura’s great-grandmother, and continue all the way through Laura’s family tree.

Ask your guests if they have a favorite adventure from any of the Little House books that they would like to read aloud or share.

Discuss how the pioneer strength common among each of these five girls helps her triumph, even though the conditions she endured differ greatly.

Trace the History
Before Laura’s family ventured onto the American frontier, Martha, Laura’s great-grandmother, grew up in the highlands of Scotland, and Charlotte, Laura’s grandmother, lived in Boston during the war of 1812. Celebrate the rich cultures of Laura’s ancestors with a Boston tea party, or serve baked beans with fresh cornbread. Encourage some of your staff members to dress in the styles of the Scots with plaids, kilts or pleated skirts.

A Cameo Performance
Quick, simple craft projects are a great way to spend time with your guests.

To honor the rich heritage of Laura’s family, create cameos of the members of Laura’s family. Photocopy images of Martha, Charlotte, Caroline, Laura, and Rose to make charms. Then, punch a hole in the top and thread a string through the hole to make your cameo a necklace.
